How to create and manage Customisations Templates
Customisation Templates allow you to create reusable sets of product customisations and automatically apply them to products using rules. Instead of configuring the same customisations on every product, you can create a template once and use JSON Logic rules to decide which products it applies to.
Creating a template
Navigate to Products > Customisations > and click New Template.
Each template consists of five main sections:
- Template information
- Status
- Stock Locations (If applicable)
- Product Rules
- Customisations

Name
Give your template a descriptive name that makes it easy to identify later.
For example:
- Trophy Engraving
- Printed Clothing
- Gift Messages
- Workwear Personalisation
Status
Templates can be:
- Active - The template can be applied to matching products.
- Inactive - The template is saved but will not be applied until it is activated.
Once you’ve finished configuring your template, click Save.
Stock Locations
If your shop uses multiple Stock Locations, you can restrict a template so that it only applies to a specific location.
This allows you to create different customisation templates for the same product, with each template being displayed only when the customer is viewing the relevant Stock Location.
For example, you might sell the same product in both the UK and the EU but want different:
- Customisation prices
- Currencies
- Available options
- Personalisation fields
By creating separate templates for each Stock Location, customers will automatically see the correct customisation options for the location they are browsing.

Product Rules
Product Rules determine which products will use the template.
Rules are created using the built-in JSON Logic rule builder and can be based on:
- Product Brand
- Product Category
- Product Name
- Product SKU
- Product Tags
Rules can be combined using AND and OR conditions to build simple or advanced matching logic.
If you do not add any Product Rules, the template will automatically apply to every product.
If multiple templates match the same product, the most recently created template will be used.
Adding customisations
Click Add Customisation to create a new field.
A template can contain as many customisations as required.
You can also:
- Drag and drop customisations to change the order customers see them.
- Collapse or expand customisations to keep large templates organised.
- Delete customisations you no longer need.

Each customisation includes:
- Label
- Type
- Modifier Type
- Visibility
- Mandatory
- Any settings specific to that customisation type

Customisation types
Different customisation types are available depending on the information you want your customer to provide.
These include:
- Text Input
- Text & Font
- Multi-line Text
- Multi-line Text & Font
- Pick From List
- Checkbox
- Product add-on
- List of add-ons
- File Upload
- Range
Some field types include additional configuration options that are specific to that field.
Price modifiers
Many customisation types allow you to charge an additional amount.
For example:
- Add £5 for engraving
- Add £20 for premium embroidery
Tax configuration
Whenever a customisation has a price modifier, you can choose how tax is applied.

The available options are:
Follow product tax configuration (Default): The customisation follows the same tax configuration as the product.
Charge Standard: Always applies your standard tax rate to the customisation, regardless of the product’s tax configuration. (If checkout-level tax calculations remove tax from the order, tax will not be charged.)
Never charge tax: No tax will be charged on the customisation price, regardless of the product’s tax configuration.
Mandatory fields
Enable Mandatory if customers must complete the field before adding the product to their basket.
Leave this disabled if the customisation is optional.
Advanced Options
Advanced Options allow you to display a customisation only when another customisation has a specific value.
This is useful when you want to show additional fields based on the customer’s previous selections, creating a cleaner and more dynamic personalisation experience.
For example, you could:
- Show an Embroidery Text field only if Decoration Type is set to Embroidery.
- Show Upload Logo only if Logo Required is set to Yes.
To configure an advanced option:
- Open the customisation you want to control.
- Click Advanced Options.
- Select the customisation that should be evaluated.
- Add one or more values that will make the current customisation visible.
- Save your changes.
If the customer selects one of the specified values, the customisation will be displayed. If they select any other value, the customisation will remain hidden.
Repeaters
Repeaters allow customers to repeat a group of customisations multiple times.
For example:
-
Multiple engraved names
-
Multiple player names and numbers
-
Multiple personalised labels
Repeaters are configured separately for each template by selecting Configure Repeaters.

Saving your template
Once you’ve finished configuring your template:
-
Review the Product Rules.
-
Make sure the template is Active.
-
Click Save.
Products matching your rules will immediately begin using the template.
If the template is Inactive, it will be saved but will not appear on products until activated.
Tips
- Use descriptive template names.
- Start with inactive templates while testing.
- Be careful when leaving Product Rules empty, as the template will apply to every product.
- Use drag and drop to organise both customisations and list options.
